What is IELTS?
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world's most popular English proficiency test for higher education and global migration. Accepted by over 11,000 organizations in 140 countries, IELTS opens doors to universities, employers, and immigration authorities worldwide.
The test measures your ability to communicate in English across four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each module is scored on a band scale of 0-9, and your overall score is the average of all four modules.
At PND IELTS, we offer comprehensive IELTS preparation in Hyderabad for both Academic and General Training modules. With 20+ years of teaching experience, our trainer Sharmistha has guided 250+ students to achieve their required scores for study abroad, immigration, and professional registration. Our IELTS classes in Hyderabad are designed to help you achieve your target band score efficiently.
IELTS Academic vs General Training
IELTS comes in two versions. Choosing the right one depends on your goals:
IELTS Academic
For students seeking admission to universities, colleges, or professional bodies. Required for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in English-speaking countries. The Reading section uses academic texts from journals, textbooks, and research papers. The Writing Task 1 asks you to describe graphs, charts, diagrams, or processes.
Choose Academic if: You're applying to universities in UK, Australia, Canada, or USA. You're seeking professional registration (nursing, engineering, medicine). You're applying for postgraduate study anywhere.
IELTS General Training
For immigration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and UK. Also accepted for secondary education and work experience programs. The Reading section uses everyday texts like advertisements, notices, and workplace documents. The Writing Task 1 asks you to write a letter.
Choose General Training if: You're applying for Canada PR (Express Entry). You're applying for Australian skilled migration. You're seeking work visas in New Zealand or UK.
IELTS Test Format Overview
The IELTS test takes about 2 hours 45 minutes. Here's what each section involves:
Listening (30 minutes)
Four recorded conversations and monologues. 40 questions testing your comprehension. You hear each recording only once, so concentration is critical.
Reading (60 minutes)
Three long passages with 40 questions. Academic uses academic texts; General uses practical, everyday materials. No extra time for transferring answers.
Writing (60 minutes)
Two tasks: Task 1 (150 words minimum) and Task 2 (250 words minimum). Task 2 is worth twice as much as Task 1, so manage your time accordingly.
Speaking (11-14 minutes)
Face-to-face interview with an examiner. Three parts: introduction questions, long turn with a cue card, and abstract discussion.
Our IELTS Coaching Approach
Our training methodology focuses on real test strategies, not just English improvement. We've refined our approach based on what actually works for achieving target scores:
- Diagnostic Assessment: Before you start, we identify your current level and weak areas. This helps us create a personalized study plan that targets exactly what you need.
- Targeted Practice: We focus extra time on the sections where you need most improvement. If Writing is your weakness, you get more writing feedback. If Speaking needs work, you get additional speaking slots.
- Time Management: Many students fail IELTS not because of English ability, but because of poor time management. We drill you on pacing so you never run out of time in the exam.
- Mock Tests: Regular full-length practice tests under real exam conditions. This builds stamina and reduces exam-day anxiety. You know exactly what to expect.
- Speaking Practice: One-on-one speaking sessions with expert feedback. We record sessions so you can hear your mistakes and track improvement over time.
- Writing Review: Personalized feedback on every writing task using actual IELTS band descriptors. You learn exactly why you're getting the score you're getting and how to improve.
